Pay for play on the Q

Quiet weekend here at Chateau Mac, the cat with the schedule this weekend is the boy. He had a birthday party today and one tomorrow. I don't understand why it's become an old fashioned pissing match when it comes to kids parties but it has. Today it was mini golf, I'm sure before long it will involve int'l travel. When I was a kid, you got a hot dog, orange pop and cake. Anyway, the treat of the weekend is the fact that it's the pay for play weekend on the Q, our local rock station where $104 will get you a 6 pack of tunes. Some very creative folks out there. I remember when they first did this a few years back and every hour had at least 5 AC/DC tunes. Wasn't long before the Q started playing a lot more AC/DC. Right now we've got an entire album of Pink Floyd. Quality time indeed...

It was a great day, but a tough one

Howdy Campers! Back from the South on Friday and off to the hub on Saturday. 400 people were kind enough to support my Uncle Doug and his fight with Cancer. The benefit went off without a hitch and I think we brought in close to 20K. It was nice to see a lot of folks who we don't get to see very often. Family, friends and ghosts from the past. I had to make a tough speech to thank everyone and until that point I was on my best behavior. Had I not, I'm sure the speech would have been a disaster as I'm known to get a little emotional from time to time. Bit of an understatement there, speaking of me getting weepy I went with my Mom and my Aunt to visit a very dear family friend who is battling cancer as well. I had sent her a Christmas card that she liked with some memories of days gone by. She was like a second mother to me growing up and she treated me like gold. As you can tell I have an easier time writing out my feelings sometimes than speaking them. So as Saturday night was wrapping up and Tim was belting out "If tomorrow never comes" I was left in a chair to think about times to come...

Sometimes late at night I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way
I feelAbout her in my heart

If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes

'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance to tell her how I feel

If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes

So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking ofIf tomorrow never comes
~ Garth Brooks

So, with tears running down my face I had three of my best friends to thank for bringing a smile back to my face as we set to break the World record for most people stuffed in a ford escort wagon taxi. With eight aboard we were off to get some donairs. Good idea for some, not so much for some others. Jen had a rough birthday. Greek food, beer, wine, tequilla, and donairs aren't always a good mix.

As you can now see it was a great day but a tough one.

Put Some South in Your Mouth

Busy travel week this week. Houston Monday, Atlanta Tuesday night. But i'm here til tomorrow. I like it here. Lots to see and more than anything else good eats. I had lunch yesterday here www.oldhickoryhouse.com and I tell you what that was some good bar-b-q. I had me the people pleaser platter. Any good lunch has three kinds of meats right? I had BBQ pork, beef and ribs with brunswick stew and baked beans. Well, the waitress picks up on my accent and the fact that my eyes are glazing over this grub and asks me if I want to sample some more? Giddyup! Next thing I know they have seven side order samplers coming at me. A bit much for lunch but I only get here a couple of times a year. Meeting went well too & I met my first east indian redneck. Ya gotta call for details on that one! As an add on it's Thursday and I just came back from Downtown and a trip to www.thevarsity.com , an Atlanta tradition. You're greeted by a line of folks screamin' "what'll ya have". Tonight the fine dining was a couple of chili slaw dogs, rings and a frosted orange to drink. Nasty, but tasty and I'll probably visit next time. Salad tomorrow I promise!

Is pyromania heriditary?

If you've ever been to my house you'd realize that I have a wood problem. When we bought this place it was surrounded by trees. Well 120 trees and a hurricane later I'm still cleaning up. Brush piles, log piles. What to do? Burn baby burn. I love having fires. I get this from my father who gets it from his father and so on. Maybe we were kicked out Scotland years ago for brush fires. Not sure but I know this time of the year I'm out in the yard happy as a clam. It was strange this week to be home start to finish and not have to fly, rent or check into anything. Stange but very nice. Show season is winding up. Two more trips and it's done. I'm off to Texas tomorrow and Georgia on Tuesday night. It's going to be a good eating trip. I love the bar-b-q down south. Three times a day too much? See y'all later.

Seemed like a good idea at the time...

So I've got a buddy getting remarried. The first of my "do-over"friends. What's the etiquette here? I of course being a helpful sort suggest the stag party. Nothing doing. Hmm. What to do. How about do what they do in Marketing and just rename it. Perfect. I called it a "gentleman's night"and he bit. Foolishly I suggest we'll have it here at Chateau Mac. Another friend says I've got two kegs of beer. We passed on that. Good thing as it was I had to play nurse and hose out the house. Groom to be was still pleased. So in the end I guess it all worked out. I'm going to be home for the whole week for the first time since January. Have a great week.
